Asteroid 2025 PM passed Earth at a distance of about 1 million kilometers, which is more than 2.5 times the distance to the Moon. The size of this near-Earth object is about 53 meters. This was reported by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research (IKI) and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISZF) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The orbit of asteroid 2025 PM is well studied, and there is no threat of collision with Earth. Today at 12:03 Moscow time, it passed our planet at the predicted distance. Recent observations have allowed us to refine its diameter, which turned out to be slightly larger than earlier estimates.
The closest predicted major approach with a near-Earth object is expected in the second half of September. At this time, asteroid 2025 FA22, with a diameter of about 200 meters, will fly past Earth at a distance of about 1 million kilometers.
