Russian radio stations and media holdings have proposed the mandatory installation of FM receivers and a Russian radio player in all new cars, including imported ones. The corresponding proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for inclusion in the Concept for the Development of Television and Radio Broadcasting until 2035.
According to the initiators, many modern cars, including those of Chinese and Korean production, are not equipped with FM radio or configured Internet broadcasting. Radio remains one of the most accessible means of mass media, especially in emergency situations when other communication channels are unavailable.
The initiative has been discussed since 2023, but the final version of the Concept has not yet been approved. Industry representatives emphasize that FM radio is critical for promptly informing the public, as it was, for example, during the floods in Orenburg.
