The Ministry of Internal Affairs told how Russians' passwords are stolen under the guise of tax deductions

Scammers offer to return money for paying taxes and demand codes from SMS

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has warned about a new fraud scheme involving authorization codes for online services.

Fraudsters call citizens on behalf of tax or social service employees, offering to apply for a legal tax deduction, for example, 14 thousand rubles for training. To do this, they ask to name the code from the SMS.

After receiving the code, the scammers call again on behalf of law enforcement agencies and warn of an alleged hack and financing of prohibited organizations. Most often, Russians aged 25–35 become victims.

The department recommended obtaining information about tax deductions only through the official website of the Federal Tax Service, as well as personally contacting the tax inspectorate or the MFC.
