A rare domestic A-50 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft was spotted over Kazan on the weekend.
According to information from open sources, the flight range of the A-50 exceeds 7,500 kilometers. The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) have about 10 such aircraft in service.
The A-50 is also in service with India, which received three such aircraft in the export version EI in 2010, and with Belarus.
The A-50 was created on the basis of the Il-76MD military transport aircraft. The aircraft was developed at the Beriev Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex and is designed to guide fighters to targets, control air combat operations, and detect a wide range of air and surface targets.
The modernized A-50U version is equipped with the Shmel-M X-band over-fuselage radar complex (RLC), capable of detecting targets with an effective reflecting surface of 0.1 m² at a range of up to 120 km.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Kalashnikov has shipped a batch of SR.2M submachine guns to the customer.
