Eleven Russian universities participating in the Yandex project have supported the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by students in the preparation of graduation works.
The program, launched at the Higher School of Economics in 2024, subsequently attracted ITMO, KFU, UrFU, Tyumen State University, SibGMU and a number of other universities. In total, more than 500 students from various fields of knowledge took part in it. They used artificial intelligence as an auxiliary tool for working on diploma projects, primarily for organizing text and compiling literature reviews.
Students received free access to the advanced YandexGPT 5 language model in the Yandex Cloud, which allowed them to use neural networks in their diploma projects. At the defense, they demonstrated how they used AI to solve specific problems and shared plans for further use of these technologies. The examination committee assessed how consciously and critically students approach working with artificial intelligence. Universities emphasized that AI is a tool that complements, rather than replaces, human thinking, and helps students optimize routine processes, freeing up time for more creative work.
