KMZ Implements Innovative Casting Technology to Reduce Defects

New method improves casting quality through an advanced runner cup with a sand plug

KMZ and SKB-3 specialists have developed a technology that reduces the number of defects in ferrous alloy castings. The solution is based on a modernized runner cup with a sand plug.

Before pouring the metal, the cup opening is closed with a plug. After filling, the melt is held to allow slag to float to the surface. Then, the plug is raised, and clean metal enters the mold. This reduces the number of non-metallic inclusions.

The new method is already being used in the production of large castings. It improves product quality and reduces the percentage of defects. Finished products meet technical requirements.
