The principle of operation of a thermobaric munition is that when it hits a target, a special charge is triggered, which evenly scatters a dry thermobaric mixture and simultaneously detonates it.
A volumetric detonation occurs. The explosion sphere has a temperature of over 1,000°C. A full salvo from the TOS-1A covers approximately 40,000 square meters — almost six football fields.
