Russia May Impose Fines for Cryptocurrency Payments Starting in 2026

According to experts, the initiative aims to eliminate a legal loophole

Starting in 2026, Russia will introduce fines for paying for goods and services using cryptocurrencies. This was reported by Izvestia, citing the head of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, Anatoly Aksakov.

The fine for individuals will range from 100,000 to 200,000 rubles, and for legal entities, from 700,000 to 1 million rubles. The bill was developed by the Central Bank in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance and aims to suppress transactions using digital currencies, including buying, selling, investing, storing, and mining operations.

According to experts, the initiative aims to eliminate a legal loophole where a formal ban on cryptocurrency payments exists, but liability for its violation has not yet been established. The introduction of sanctions should make such operations economically unprofitable.
