The joint Russian-Kazakh space project «Baiterek», which plans to launch the «Soyuz-5» launch vehicle from Baikonur, may take a strong position in the international launch market. This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan.
According to Euroconsult, about 3,700 satellites will be launched annually in the world over the next 10 years, and «Soyuz-5» will be able to meet the demand for launching spacecraft into the sought-after geotransfer and sun-synchronous orbits.
The flexibility of the rocket is ensured by head fairings of two diameters — 4.1 and 5.2 meters — which makes it possible to adapt to the needs of different customers.
The first test launch of the rocket is scheduled for December 2025. Russia is responsible for the rocket itself, Kazakhstan is responsible for modernizing the launch infrastructure at Baikonur.
The possibility of transferring the production of the «Soyuz-5» rocket to the territory of Kazakhstan is also being discussed, but concrete steps will begin only after successful tests.
