European Union imposes sanctions against Yandex Bank and Ozon Bank for the first time

Users warned about possible blocking of banking applications

The European Union has imposed new sanctions against 22 Russian banks, as well as a number of industrial enterprises and foreign companies cooperating with Russia.

T-Bank, Yandex Bank, Ozon Bank, Surgutneftegazbank, Severgazbank, Energotransbank, Bank "St. Petersburg", Dom.RF, Finam, Tsentrokredit, Metkombank, Genbank, Bystrobank, Tatsotsbank, Zenit, Transstroybank, Expobank, Loko-Bank, Lanta-Bank, Bank-131 and Rostfinance Bank were subject to restrictions.

The sanctions apply only to the territory of the European Union, but, according to the source, applications of these banks may be removed from the Apple App Store in the coming days. Users are advised to download the necessary applications in advance and save their backups.

Most credit organizations did not comment on the situation.

For the first time, banks associated with technology companies have fallen under European sanctions: Yandex Bank and Ozon Bank are included in the list. Restrictions also affected four Belarusian and two Chinese banks, which became a new step in the EU sanctions policy.
