Russia has developed new Geran-3 kamikaze drones with a jet engine, but the military is not using them. The Telegram channel "Military Chronicle" explained why this situation has developed.
The first reason may be that they are currently being accumulated. The second version is the lack of mass assembly, since there is no great need for reactive "Geraniums" yet, and in terms of capabilities, the "Geran-3" is closer to cruise missiles than cheap kamikaze drones.
The main value of "Geran" is its low cost and long range. This is not a high-precision weapon, but an expendable tool for depleting the enemy's resources.
The third option is a technical debugging cycle. The production of even the simplest jet-powered UAV requires a stable serial base, at least for engines and a fully developed autopilot. Perhaps the characteristics are now being refined - or the layout is being simplified in order to reduce the cost of the product to an acceptable level, the authors concluded.
Earlier www1.ru reported that MiG-31 fighters used hypersonic "Kinzhal" for the second time in three days.
