SSTU named after Gagarin presented a project of a new assault tank: all the "sores" were taken into account

The combat vehicle was proposed to be built on the basis of T-72 or T-90

Saratov State Technical University (SSTU named after Yu.A. Gagarin) presented a new patent for a new assault tank. The combat vehicle was proposed to be built on the basis of T-72, T-80 or T-90.

According to the patent, the main disadvantage of using tanks to break through fortified defensive lines is the lack of equipment to fight enemy manpower.

The introduction of a short-barreled 152 mm gun will significantly increase the effectiveness of high-explosive fragmentation shells - up to 2.5 times compared to the 125 mm standard used in domestic tanks.

It will also increase the combat effectiveness of shells by expanding the affected area to 4–5 km due to the elevation angle of the howitzer up to 60° vertically. At the same time, reducing the barrel length sharply reduces the muzzle energy of the gun and, as a result, the initial velocity of the projectile, its armor penetration and accuracy.

Rockets can be launched both from the gun barrel using an automatic loading mechanism, and from externally mounted modules on the tank hull.

The patent proposes to remake the combat vehicle by replacing the combat module: replace the 125-mm gun with a vertical automatic loader with a completely new module, including a 152-mm howitzer with a horizontal automatic loader, a 30-mm automatic cannon and a 7.62-mm machine gun.

The assault tank should also be equipped with a set of bulldozer equipment with dynamic protection elements installed on it, as well as control and observation equipment installed on a выдвижной мачте с гидравлическим или электромеханическим приводом.
