US to Modernize Over 100 Russian MiG-29 Fighters for Third Country

Indian Air Force contracts with US-based Coastal Mechanics Inc to service combat aircraft

Indian company Reliance Defence has entered into a strategic partnership with US Department of Defense authorized contractor Coastal Mechanics Inc. (CMI) to jointly meet India's needs for MRO of military equipment.

The agreement includes modernization, maintenance, and life extension of key Indian combat platforms. Among them are Russian-made MiG-29 fighters, currently operated by the Indian Air Force.

Reliance Defence and Coastal Mechanics intend to modernize the MiG-29 without dependence on the Russian component manufacturer, focusing on local components, reverse engineering, and modernization of system compatibility.

The partnership is valued at $2.34 billion. The agreement also covers L-70 anti-aircraft guns, Apache AH-64 helicopters, and over 100 Jaguar strike aircraft.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that ODK will sharply increase the production of aircraft engines.
