Banks are increasingly blocking Russians' cards: expert advises how to avoid this

Economist explains which transfers may raise suspicion among financial organizations

Recently, many Russians have been facing problems when making bank transfers. Some types of transfers may raise suspicions among banks, which may ultimately lead to the card being blocked for up to 10 days. Petr Shcherbachenko, Associate Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, explained how to avoid such problems.

Banks are especially attentive to regular receipts from legal entities or individual entrepreneurs without a contract. According to the expert, frequent transfers with the notes "for services" or "payment for work", as well as receiving money from different people without explanation, may be suspected.

If a quick transaction occurs for the same amounts from one card to several bank cards, this may alert financial institutions.

Shcherbachenko noted that a card may be blocked if three factors combine: the regularity of transfers, the content of the purpose of the payment, and the status of the sender. However, if all transfers are legal, there is no need to worry.

The expert advises that when making family transfers, for example, from parents to children, or when sending gifts, it is better to indicate the relevant information in the purpose of the payment.

If you are returning a debt, it is recommended to have a receipt or correspondence confirming this. If the bank requests confirmation of transactions, screenshots of the correspondence can serve as proof.

For fundraising for common needs, such as school or kindergarten expenses, Shcherbachenko recommends using special services of banking applications. They allow you to organize both public and non-public fundraising, where you can specify the purpose and amount of the collection, and then send a link to the parent chat.

Some banks automatically create separate savings accounts for such collections, which avoids confusion with personal finances and accrues interest on the balance of funds.
