On the morning of July 7, scientists recorded a new ejection of a giant prominence on the side of the Sun facing Earth. The arrival of part of the plasma to Earth is possible, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS reported.
A plasma filament about one million kilometers in size was ejected into space, forming something resembling a swirling tornado of hot gas during its movement.
Mathematical models predict the possibility of such complex movements, explaining them by the fact that the magnetic field of the prominence was previously twisted into a "bundle". As the prominence moves upward, this bundle begins to rapidly unwind, creating swirling motions and sometimes even tearing the plasma filament into pieces.
An accurate understanding of the direction of movement of the prominence will be in the second half of July 7, when scientists receive data from solar coronagraphs.
