300-ton Living Quarters Installed on Newest Nuclear Icebreaker Chukotka

Installation of such a large block on an icebreaker of Project 22220 was carried out for the first time

An enlarged block of sections of the living quarters, weighing more than 300 tons, has been installed on the nuclear icebreaker Chukotka of Project 22220, which is under construction. This was reported by the press service of the Baltic Shipyard (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC).

The three-tiered structure was delivered to the construction site and lifted on board with the support of several tugs using the Demag floating crane.

The installed block will house comfortable accommodation for the crew — recreation areas, cabins, sanitary and other service rooms.

Piping for general ship systems and ventilation, portholes, doors and electrical equipment have already been installed in the block. After the installation of the structures is completed, specialists will begin construction of the premises.

The nuclear icebreaker Chukotka is the fifth vessel of Project 22220, being built by order of the Rosatom State Corporation according to a project developed at the Iceberg Central Design Bureau. The icebreaker was laid down on December 16, 2020, and the vessel will be sent to the customer in 2026.
