The Vladimir region has begun testing Russia's first digital prisoner surveillance system. The experiment is taking place at IK-6 — the Melekhovo penal colony, known for being where opposition politician Alexei Navalny (listed as a terrorist and extremist) was held for a long time.
The complex automates the processes of monitoring prisoners' compliance with legislation, regime requirements, performing documentation and video analytics functions using modern IT technologies and artificial intelligence.
The digitalization of the correctional colony includes a system that records voice and facial images, providing biometric accounting and automatic generation of digital profiles of prisoners. A contactless biometric system is also used, and intelligent algorithms track movements within the colony, quickly identifying suspicious activity.
The implementation of these technologies aims to enhance security, optimize accounting, and improve the speed of response to potential threats in institutions of the penal system. The Vladimir region became the first in the country where a digital surveillance and control complex was installed at a correctional colony.
