New Engineering Center for the Development of Plasma Torches and Heat-Generating Assemblies for Reactors to Appear in Novosibirsk

IT SB RAS to create an enterprise for 2.5 billion rubles

An engineering center project worth 2–2.5 billion rubles is starting in Novosibirsk at the Institute of Thermophysics of the SB RAS. According to the director of the institute, Dmitry Markovich, a specialized building will house unique stands for modeling combustion chambers of engines and assemblies of nuclear reactors.

It is very important for us to build this new infrastructure.
Dmitry Markovich, Director of the Institute of Thermophysics of the SB RAS

The center will focus on several key areas:

  1. Energy — development of combustion chambers for gas turbine plants and engines.
  2. Nuclear technologies — creation of heat-generating assemblies for small and medium power reactors, including solutions for the Arctic regions.
  3. Additional research will cover high-power plasma torches for efficient plasma chemistry and mineral raw material enrichment technologies.

Funding includes a six-year grant of 1 billion rubles. The partners will be Rosatom and the United Engine Corporation (UEC).
