Authorities are planning to launch a high-speed railway (HSR) between Moscow and St. Petersburg. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The maximum speed of trains on this line will reach 400 km/h, and the operational speed will be 360 km/h.
The first high-speed rail line in Russia is expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2028. Trains will run at intervals of 10-15 minutes, providing convenient and fast connections between the two capitals. Plans include launching 28 trains by the end of 2028, and increasing their number to 43 by 2030. It is projected that after 2030, the passenger traffic on the HSR will be at least 23 million people per year.
The construction and production of trains for the new line are being carried out by the "Ural Locomotives" plant. Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov reported that the assembly of the first train prototype is scheduled for 2026, and the design is nearing completion.
