Aviation Expert Panteleev: MC-21 Will Serve as a Reserve for Implementing Plans to Increase Passenger Traffic

The production plans for the MC-21, as announced by the state corporation Rostec, may well exceed Aeroflot's plans to receive more than 100 of these aircraft by 2030. This opinion was expressed by Oleg Panteleev, Executive Director of the Aviaport agency.

MC-21

According to him, even if the assembly rate of 72 MC-21s per year, as stipulated in the comprehensive aviation industry development program, is not reached within this timeframe, assembling more than 100 aircraft is an achievable task.

This is based on the assembly rate for which production is currently being modernized both in Irkutsk and at the subcontractors – suppliers of components.

Panteleev noted that Aeroflot is maintaining its existing fleet of foreign-made aircraft. Moreover, the company continues to settle insurance claims for those aircraft that belong to foreign leasing companies.

This will serve both as a safety net in case of unforeseen circumstances and as a reserve for implementing ambitious plans to increase passenger traffic.
