A unit for conducting express tests of solid and liquid fuels, which allows testing three times faster and with minimal costs, has been launched at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU). This was reported by the university's press service.
The unit is a combustion chamber with a volume of 50 liters. It includes systems for visualizing the fuel combustion process, measuring temperature and sampling gas-phase combustion products, volatile ash and soot.
This unit can be used to study the processes of pulverized combustion of solid fuel (coal), as well as tests of in-line combustion of liquid fuel (diesel, used oil, biofuel from waste, other types of fuel). The stand also allows for full-scale tests and studies of nozzle devices, modes and efficiency of the combustion process.
The uniqueness of the stand lies in its compactness.
Due to this, it is possible to conduct express tests that do not require significant time and financial costs for heating the combustion chamber and other thermomechanical equipment. Thus, one experiment on our installation takes two hours, while a similar study on full-scale equipment can take from six hours to several days.
