The diesel-electric submarine (DES) “Kaluga” of Project 877, code “Paltus”, has arrived at the main base of the Kola Flotilla of mixed forces of the Northern Fleet, the city of Polyarny.
The crew successfully completed all the tasks assigned for the long voyage, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported. According to the tradition established at the Northern Fleet during the Great Patriotic War, a roasted piglet was presented to the submarine commander at the welcoming ceremony.
Sailors who distinguished themselves during the long voyage were awarded departmental awards.
Diesel-electric submarines of Project 877, code “Paltus”, are low-noise Russian submarines thanks to a special hydroacoustic coating on the hull and a streamlined shape. In the West, this class of submarines is called the “Black Hole” for its high stealth.
Submarines of Project 877 “Paltus” are armed with 533 mm caliber torpedo tubes and can also use the “Caliber” missile system.
