The Public Chamber of Russia has proposed introducing legislative requirements for the presence of physical controls in cars that duplicate the main functions in order to improve road safety.
The initiative, announced by Vladimir Korobchak, Deputy Chairman of the All-Russian Society of Motorists, aims to make it mandatory to keep buttons and levers for controlling lighting equipment, wipers, windshield heating and other important systems, instead of completely switching to touch screens.
Experts support the idea, noting that abandoning physical buttons increases the risk of accidents due to the driver being distracted by searching for the necessary functions in the menu. However, the introduction of new requirements is technically and economically difficult, given the dependence of the Russian market on Chinese manufacturers.
