The State Duma approved in the first reading a bill on the creation of a federal rating of the quality of driving schools. The information will be published on a special website where Russians will be able to not only study data about schools, but also leave reviews.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs will develop the evaluation system. Among the key criteria are the proportion of students who pass the exam the first time, and the number of accidents involving graduates. The rating will increase competition and improve the quality of driver training.
Driving schools criticize the initiative, pointing to the weak link between accidents and the quality of training. Currently, there are about 7,500 driving schools operating in Russia, of which about 6,000 train in category B. Only 14% of driver candidates pass the practical exam the first time.
