«Follower» spool valve integrated into the oil supply system of the drive turbines of power unit 4 of the Rostov NPP

The new device will avoid reducing the power of the power unit of the station

Rosatom has modernized the oil supply system for the turbine-driven feed pumps of the fourth unit of the Rostov NPP. This was reported by the press service of the state corporation.

There are two turbine-driven feed pumps at each unit. Each provides half of the total feed water flow to the steam generators and 50% of the reactor plant load. If the oil supply to the control systems of one of the pumps is disrupted, a command is given to unload the reactor plant, and even if the pressure in the oil system has returned to its previous level, the reactor will still be unloaded to 50% of its capacity.

A special device — a «follower» spool valve — has been integrated into the oil supply system of the drive turbines of the turbine-driven feed pumps (TFP). This device is capable of redirecting flows in the event of an oil supply failure in one of the TFPs. In this case, the pressure in the systems of both turbines will be able to be provided by one operating oil pump, and the power unit will not be reduced.
