The small anti-submarine ship (MPC) "Onega" (Project 1124M) of the Northern Fleet has begun a planned exercise to search for and conditionally destroy submarines at a training ground in the White Sea. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The crew of "Onega" is opposed by sailors from a nuclear submarine, who are tasked with launching a torpedo attack and conditionally destroying a surface ship. At the final stage of the exercise, the MPC crew will use depth charges and torpedo weapons. The maneuvers will take place over several days.

MPCs are designed to search, detect, classify and destroy submarines. The ships are armed with 2 rotary 533-mm torpedo tubes, RBU-6000 rocket launchers, the Osa-MA air defense system, and AK-176 and AK-630.
