North Korean 140 mm Towed Mortar Begins Testing by Russian Military at Training Ground

Smoothbore artillery gun has a firing range of up to 8 kilometers

Russian military personnel have received a new model of artillery system from North Korea. This is a 140 mm towed mortar, which was tested at one of the training grounds.

The mortar of unusual caliber came with parts and tools.

Characteristics of the smoothbore towed gun:

  • Weight in combat position — 230 kg
  • Weight in transport position — 355 kg
  • Minimum firing range — 500 m
  • Maximum firing range — 8 km
  • Rate of fire — up to 12 rounds per minute
  • Elevation angle — +80 degrees
  • Projectile weight — 17.4 kg

Prior to this, the Russian military had North Korean 60 mm mortars and Type-75 130 mm towed multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) at their disposal.
