Chery changes strategy: Omoda becomes Onives, and Jaecoo becomes Jeland

Omoda C5 assembly suspended due to misunderstanding with Avtotor

Chinese automaker Chery is making significant changes to its strategy in the Russian market. According to insiders, Jaecoo crossovers, which will begin assembly in August 2025 at the former General Motors plant in Shushary, will be produced under a new name - Jeland. In addition, the Omoda brand will be renamed Onives.

Assembly of the Omoda C5 model, which began in April 2025 at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad, was quickly suspended. It is claimed that this was due to serious disagreements between Chery and the plant. It is assumed that Onives production will be moved to another site, most likely in St. Petersburg.

At the same time, another Chery sub-brand, Jetour, continues to be assembled at Avtotor, using a full cycle, including body welding.
