In Russia, the fully autonomous truck tractor Navio L5, developed by the domestic company Navio, was presented live. The vehicle does not require a driver: instead of a cab with a seat, there is only technical equipment. The tractor is controlled by an advanced autopilot that complies with all traffic rules and is able to take into account various road situations.
According to the developers, Navio L5 is able to reduce logistics costs by up to 30% and save up to 15% of fuel.
The premiere took place at the conference "Digital Industry of Industrial Russia" (CIPR-2025). Although the tractor was first shown at the end of 2024, now journalists and conference participants saw it live. The car looks futuristic: it has no windshield, instead it has a large LED screen that displays information about the current state of the car: speed, turn signals and other data.
Navio L5 is focused on long-distance transportation. It is equipped with a machine vision system, including cameras, radars and LiDAR sensors, which allows it to scan the road situation and "see" markings, signs, other road users, pedestrians and obstacles. Thanks to this, the tractor can stay in its lane, safely change lanes, choose the optimal speed, maintain distance and brake urgently if necessary.
The autopilot system works in conjunction with a remote operator who monitors the movement of the vehicle in real time, providing an additional level of safety. The absence of a driver not only saves on salaries, but also reduces downtime - the autonomous tractor does not need rest, which gives a significant advantage in logistics.
