Russia has unexpectedly revived the MiG-35 fighter, which everyone had long written off. This was reported by French journalist Émile Faucher.
According to him, the MiG-35 was long considered a machine that has no audience and is a relic of the past. However, the Russian defense industry unexpectedly found a way to breathe life into this aircraft.
Russia has seriously engaged in modernizing its air fleet, and in this context, Russia's plans to begin serial production of MiG-35 fighters came as a big surprise.
The fact is that the fighter has been repeatedly criticized. Experts believed that it has not so many improvements in comparison with its predecessor, the MiG-29, and it also did not find buyers on the international market. Against this background, many wrote off this aircraft, the mass production of which was never started.
The latest version of the MiG-35 is significantly different from previous models. Equipped with modern avionics, it stands out with a modular engine of a new generation. The MiG-35 provides lower maintenance and operating costs than heavier "Su" aircraft.
In addition, the MiG-35 can be operated on shorter runways and unprepared surfaces due to the installation of additional fuel tanks and an improved wing design.
As a result, from a project forgotten by everyone, the MiG-35 fighter suddenly turned into one of the most promising machines in the Russian air arsenal.
Flight tests of the MiG-35 started in 2017. According to Sergei Korotkov, General Designer of the United Aircraft Corporation, the MiG-35 has already been used in combat operations. At the moment, the issue of its serial production has not yet been resolved.
