Yak-40 passenger aircraft may be revived with military engines

Power units from Yak-130 will be suitable

The Yak-40 passenger aircraft may be remotorized, equipped with engines from the Yak-130 military training aircraft. This was announced by Alexander Lebedev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Reserve Corporation (NRC).

According to him, an aircraft is an engine that can be attached to a chair or fence and fly.

There is a very interesting project, it is in the hands of the state. This is a project to modernize the Yak-40 with engines from the Yak-130 military training aircraft.

Rosaviation stated that Yakovlev (part of the United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec) plans to extend the service life of Yak-40 passenger aircraft from 50 to 60 years. We are talking about an aircraft equipped with three AI-25 turbojet engines with a thrust of 1,500 kg each. Currently, Russia operates a dozen and a half Yak-40 aircraft.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the SJ-100 aircraft flew with the PD-8 engines turned off at a huge altitude: the UAC revealed the meaning of the experiment.
