The first Russian unit for the synthesis of organic electrolyte for supercapacitors — devices that generate powerful energy pulses — was presented at the U-NOVUS-2025 forum in Tomsk. The development of the Engineering Chemical-Technological Center (ECTC) of Tomsk State University was created with the support of the Foundation for Advanced Research (FAR).
Supercapacitors, combining the properties of batteries and capacitors, are capable of instantly releasing stored energy. They are used in transport start-up systems: from cars to locomotives and aviation. The new unit produces 6.5 kg of electrolyte per cycle, which is critical for import substitution of energy storage components.
The unit was created as part of a large project to create Russian supercapacitors based on the "Elecond" company in Udmurtia.
Participants in the project from Tambov, Moscow, Udmurtia, Arkhangelsk, as well as industrial partners from different cities of the country interested in the production of supercapacitors, gathered for the ceremonial launch of production at the Tomsk ECTC site
Supercapacitors are in demand in "green" energy, electric transport and the defense industry. Localization of electrolyte production reduces dependence on foreign supplies.
