Cuba has announced plans to issue Mir cards in its banks, which will be an important step in improving financial relations with Russia. The head of the Central Bank of Cuba, Juana Lilia Delgado Portal, said that the cards are already being used by Russian tourists on the island.
At the moment, work is underway to issue Mir cards in Cuban banks. The responsible authorities are working seriously on this.
Magomed Kodzoev, a senior researcher at the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stressed that the issuance of Mir cards will help solve problems related to the insufficient digitalization of the Cuban economy.
This step allows us to further expand and deepen our partnership with the Cubans, which was largely reduced after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
As a reminder, the volume of bilateral trade between Russia and Cuba is about 250 million dollars a year. Russia exports transport and energy equipment to Cuba, and Cuba supplies sugar and fruit. The country has completely abandoned the dollar and uses rubles and euros in its calculations.
