Russia plans to establish the production of hydromechanical automatic transmissions for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. This was announced by the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Behind the Wheel", Maxim Kadakov.
This is not a full-cycle enterprise, as many probably thought. The focus is on cooperation with other Russian factories that are able to take on part of the production process.
Russia plans to cast and process aluminum gearbox housings, manufacture some gears, and in the future, master the production of torque converters. Software is also being developed to adapt the gearboxes to different engines and torque.
A private enterprise in the Moscow region, with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Industrial Development Fund (IDF), will implement the initiative. Production facilities have already been prepared, and equipment is being installed. The goal is to provide automakers with local automatic transmissions with gradual localization of components.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a 6-speed gearbox using Aisin technology will be produced in Russia.
