Rostec Studied Leopard 2A6 and Found Protection Vulnerabilities: Our Tanks Turned Out to Be Better Than German Ones

T-72B3M, T-80BVM, and T-90M Remain the Most Adapted to Modern Combat Operations

Rostec specialists received a captured German Leopard 2A6 tank to assess its real military-technical characteristics. They discovered vulnerabilities in the protection, related both to the thickness and composition of the armor, and to the internal layout of the combat vehicle.

The tank's survivability may be insufficient in modern combat conditions – for example, when attacked by modern ATGMs or from different angles by drones with a shaped-charge warhead.

It can be concluded that the protection of the Leopard 2 is focused on classical anti-tank factors characteristic of past decades, and does not fully meet today's requirements.

The state corporation emphasized that the most adapted serial tanks to modern combat operations today are the Russian T-72B3M, T-80BVM, and T-90M vehicles. They have improved all-aspect protection against drones and ATGMs – from anti-cumulative grilles to dynamic elements and other devices.

In addition, dozens of combat episodes are known when Russian tanks withstood a series of hits from different angles, while maintaining combat capability.

Earlier www1.ru reported that elusive Molniya-2 kamikaze drones began to be launched in a new way: the ammunition turned out to be too heavy.
