AvtoVAZ has revealed how its partnership with Renault held back the progress of the Lada brand. This was announced by the head of the company's press service, Sergey Ilyinsky.
Lada was positioned as a budget brand within the Renault structure. Its models were deliberately deprived of modern electronic systems and equipment to avoid competition with Renault cars in the Russian market.
Ilyinsky also noted that the alliance hindered Lada's exports, prohibiting entry into certain markets to avoid competition with the Dacia brand. After the termination of the partnership, these restrictions were lifted, opening up new opportunities for Lada.
The new Lada Iskra model, built on the CMF-B platform, has undergone significant modifications. The car has been given 400 new components, and the chassis and electronics have been completely localized. Partial unification with the Lada Vesta has made it possible to achieve import substitution, minimizing the risk of production stoppages due to external factors.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that AvtoVAZ reduced production due to a drop in car sales - source.
