Як-40 вызывает дождь над Якутском: стартовала операция по снижению пожарной угрозы

Technologies will allow pinpoint cooling of potential fire hotspots

A large-scale operation to artificially induce rain has begun in Yakutsk to reduce the risk of wildfires, which are relevant for the region in May.

A Yak-40 weather modification aircraft from the Central Aerological Observatory of Roshydromet, equipped with precipitation-inducing technology, has arrived at the city's airport. The crew began work on May 14, targeting clouds over the central and trans-river areas to cause rain precisely where it is most needed.

Modern technologies allow for precise regulation of precipitation, which helps protect the nature and settlements of Yakutia. It was previously reported that 37 forest fires are being extinguished in nine districts of the Trans-Baikal Territory, covering an area of 285,000 hectares, about half of which have been localized. Approximately 1,500 firefighters and 184 pieces of special equipment are involved in extinguishing the fires.
