Accelerated Pace: New Production of Supersonic Russian-Indian BrahMos Missiles Opens in India

The plant will produce up to 100 missiles per year

A complex for the production of supersonic Russian-Indian BrahMos missiles has opened in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (in the north of the country). The head of the Indian Ministry of Defense, Rajnath Singh, took part in the ceremony via video link.

The plant will produce 80 to 100 missiles annually. The complex will also conduct testing.

Singh specified that the enterprise was built "in just 40 months." The project is estimated at $35 million.

The BrahMos missile was developed by "NPO Mashinostroyenia" and the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization. Modifications of the missile are in service with the Air Force, Navy, and Land Forces of India.

  • Speed — 2.5-2.8 Mach
  • Range — 300 km
  • Flight altitude — up to 15,000 m
  • Inertial control system with radar seeker
  • Launch weight: 2500 kg (air-based), 3000 kg (ship-based)
  • Warhead — penetrating
  • Warhead weight — up to 450 kg
  • Service life — up to 10 years
