The newest minesweeper "Afanasy Ivannikov" will join the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy

The Project 12700 ship is equipped with modern systems for detecting and neutralizing all types of sea mines

The Russian Navy will receive a new Project 12700 mine defense ship, code "Alexandrite" — the sea minesweeper "Afanasy Ivannikov." The ship will be sent to serve in the Northern Fleet.

"Afanasy Ivannikov" is equipped with modern systems for detecting and neutralizing all types of sea mines, including the so-called "smart" mines that can distinguish between types of ships and distinguish their targets from others. The ship can detect such ammunition both in the seabed and in the water column.

In the North, it will perform tasks to ensure the exit to the sea of warships and submarines. Minesweepers of the "Alexandrite" type play a key role in ensuring the safety of naval operations in the Arctic and on the Northern Sea Route.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the "Onyx" and "Caliber" carriers, the frigates "Admiral Gorshkov" and "Admiral Kasatonov," struck targets in the Barents Sea.
