Новейшие балкеры «Михаил Егоров» и «Мелитон Кантария» заложили на «Звезде» в Приморье

The vessels were named in honor of the famous Soviet intelligence officers

The "Zvezda" shipbuilding complex in the Primorsky Territory held a ceremony for the keel-laying of two bulk carrier vessels. In honor of the anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, they were named "Mikhail Egorov" and "Meliton Kantaria" — Heroes of the Soviet Union.

The bulk carriers are designed for transporting bulk cargo. Cutting of parts for the two vessels started in February of this year.

"Mikhail Egorov" and "Meliton Kantaria" will be the first in a series of five vessels for transporting coal, being built at SSK "Zvezda". The length of the bulk carrier vessel is 229 m, width is 34.5 m, deadweight is about 86,400 tons. The power of the main engine is more than 6.8 thousand kW.

The construction of vessels at SSK "Zvezda" contributes to increasing the efficiency of coal transportation through the use of water transport.

Mikhail Egorov and Meliton Kantaria are scouts of the 756th Rifle Regiment of the 150th Rifle Division of the 3rd Shock Army of the 1st Belorussian Front. On May 1, 1945, they hoisted the Red Banner of the Military Council of the 3rd Shock Army over the Reichstag, which became the Banner of Victory. For this feat, the scouts were awarded the title of Heroes of the Soviet Union.
