Russia is developing a new close-range protection system for stationary objects and armored vehicles against kamikaze drones. The creators proposed calling it the "weapon of last chance."
The complex will be a Gatling "shotgun" with a familiar block of barrels, firing 12-gauge cartridges at the drones, which are used in smooth-bore pump-action shotguns. This will allow, due to the high rate of fire and the huge flow of shot, to guarantee the destruction of approaching threats.
The advantage of the Gatling system is that there are no delays. If a cartridge does not work, it is extracted and ejected mechanically along with the spent cartridges.
The basis for creating such a complex could be a GShG-7.62 machine gun reworked for a new caliber, and a computing system and detection radars of the "Arena-M" active protection system (APS). Unlike all existing APSs, this system will not be limited by the number of counter-ammunition.
