Russian engineers have begun testing a new automatic tank protection system capable of intercepting not only shells, but also kamikaze drones. This was announced by retired Colonel, veteran of tank forces Sergei Suvorov.
According to him, the tank is saved from a finned projectile by an active protection system. A special charge is fired to meet the incoming ammunition. It deflects or partially destroys it a moment before hitting the armor.
Our engineers are already testing a new complex that will be able to intercept not only shells, but also drones.
The veteran of tank forces recalled that both Russian and Western tanks are armed with shells with special feathers and arrows. The core of such ammunition is made of heavy metals, for example, tungsten, which increases armor penetration.
Here is a schematic representation of the principle of operation: when exiting the barrel, the core, which looks like an arrow, separates from the pallet. At the tail of the ammunition there are fins that stabilize the projectile on the flight path.
