The first Russian engine for light helicopters, the VK-650V, was created by the St. Petersburg-based enterprise UEC-Klimov. The unit embodies the best design solutions and advanced technologies, according to the United Engine Corporation (UEC).
The engine was created in a record short time — in just five years. The development of the preliminary design started in 2019, and already at the end of 2024, the VK-650V received a type certificate.
The VK-650V will replace foreign engines on Ansat, Ka-226T helicopters, and will also be used in other promising domestic and foreign helicopters with a take-off weight of up to 4 tons. The engine is already showing reliable operation during testing as part of light helicopters.
The new engine has a take-off power of 650 hp, and also delivers from 400 to 750 hp in various modes.
Earlier www1.ru reported that there is a huge queue for import-substituted MS-21s, the liners will have to wait.
