The equipping of DPRK Navy ships with nuclear weapons should be accelerated. This was stated by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during the testing of the newest destroyer "Choe Hyon" with the Russian Pantsir-ME anti-aircraft missile and gun system (SAM/Artillery System) onboard. The destroyer is designed to repel an enemy strike invading territorial waters, it is important to establish an initiative offensive defense system based on a powerful offensive capability.
As specified by KCNA, the tests included missile launches and firing from the deck gun.
Military expert Evgeny Damantsev previously stated that the North Korean destroyer "Choe Hyon" is equipped with the Pantsir-ME SAM/Artillery System.
The SAM systems are integrated into a combat information and control system based on a 4-sided AESA radar, which provides target designation and illuminates targets for anti-aircraft missiles. The estimated target detection range with an RCS of 0.1 sq. m can reach 120-160 km. This radar provides target designation for the Pantsir-ME SAM/Artillery System.
