Sergey Yamkin, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and member of the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation, proposed allowing Russian regions to purchase drones for patrolling forests and fighting fires using federal budget funds.
At a meeting of the Commission of the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg, Yamkin stated that drones are particularly effective in remote areas.
Today, UAVs effectively help solve problems in many areas, including fighting forest fires. The use of drones allows detecting fires even in small areas.
According to Yamkin, supporting the Yamal initiative will increase the drone fleet in the regions. This will make it possible to fight forest fires more effectively throughout the country.
Yamkin also proposed approving new fire monitoring methods in 2025. By 2026, it is planned to introduce standards for low-cost unmanned systems with computer vision.
Yamal demonstrates that a systematic approach and technology yield results. But without federal solutions, we will not be able to scale this experience.
Drones equipped with computer vision can analyze the situation and find sources of ignition without constant operator control. Such drones are capable of operating in autonomous mode, which significantly increases the efficiency of fighting fires in remote areas.
