Iskander-M Missiles Proved Invulnerable to IRIS-T SLM and NASAMS SAM Systems Due to Dive Angles

Warheads hit targets at speeds exceeding 1000 meters per second

The 9M723-1 quasi-ballistic missiles of the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile systems (OTRK) proved invulnerable to the western-made IRIS-T SLM and NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM). This was reported by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.

OTRK «Iskander-M»

According to him, attention should be paid to the terminal sections of the trajectories of Iskander-M missiles with a characteristic dive at angles of more than 80 degrees at a speed of 900-1050 m/s.

IRIS-T SLM and NASAMS SAM systems with small elevation angles of the beams of mobile radar stations (radar) MPQ-64F1 and TRML-4D (no more than 30 degrees), limited to a speed of 900-1000 of the targets hit, could not oppose anything to Iskander-M.

Features of the Iskander-M OTRK:

  • missile flight altitude — 50 km
  • missile range — 500 km

In the final section of the trajectory, the missile goes into a steep dive and hits the target, the deviation from the point of impact does not exceed a meter. This accuracy is ensured by inertial and optical guidance systems.
