The ZU-23 anti-aircraft gun has become an effective means of combating kamikaze drone attacks on energy facilities, according to military expert Igor Korotchenko.
According to him, the modernized ZU-23-2 has become a formidable weapon due to its equipment with modern target detection and tracking equipment, a programmable detonation system for anti-aircraft ammunition, and remote control.
The refinement of the ZU-23 through the installation of an optoelectronic unit with television and thermal imaging cameras allows for aerial reconnaissance at any time of the day. A laser rangefinder determines the distance to the target, and target tracking is carried out by an automatic tracking system.
The 23-millimeter anti-aircraft gun was adopted into service back in 1960. It consists of two paired 2A14 automatic cannons.
Tactical and technical characteristics of the ZU-23-2:
- Gun length — 2555 mm
- Rate of fire — 2000 rounds/min
- Firing range — 1.5 km in height
- Crew — 6 people
