Cosmonaut Wagner: Evacuation from "Soyuz" - Like Squats with a 50-Kilogram Barbell

Cosmonaut talks about the difficulties of exiting the descent module after a flight in zero gravity

Roscosmos cosmonaut Ivan Wagner shared his previous experience of returning to Earth after a six-month stay on the International Space Station. During a communication session with the Russian segment of the ISS, he compared the process of evacuation from the Soyuz descent module with a physical exercise familiar to many - squats with a 50-kilogram barbell.

Wagner noted that in 2020, difficulties arose not during the first steps on Earth, but during the exit from the descent module, which was located on the bottom.

It was necessary to pull myself up and exit through the landing hatch. I compared it to a squat with a barbell weighing 50 kilograms.

He emphasized that during the flight he got used to zero gravity, and the absence of Earth under his feet did not become a problem for him.

Ivan Wagner, who arrived at the ISS in September together with cosmonaut Alexei Ovchinin and astronaut Donald Pettit, already has experience in space flights. His first expedition took place from April to October 2020.

The landing of the 72nd expedition is scheduled for April 20, 2025.
