The Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center is beginning to use artificial intelligence (AI) in the training process, according to Denis Matveev, a Russian cosmonaut.
We are starting to implement AI, but these are only trial steps so far.
Matveev noted that the general space training program for cosmonaut candidates already includes a section on artificial intelligence. The neural network allows processing large amounts of data and highlighting the necessary information. Cosmonauts also take many photographs of the Earth's surface, but there are difficulties with their geographical referencing. In such cases, AI assistance can be used to process and decipher the photographs.
Igor Koreshev, Head of the International Activities Coordination Department at the CTC, reported that the center is constantly developing and implementing new technologies.
Given the communication delay with Earth, they need an assistant who can always advise the cosmonaut in some emergency situation when it is not possible to get a direct answer from Earth.
Currently, the scientific department is developing a system to assist cosmonauts on the Moon and Mars.
