Non-Explosive Reactive Armor Will Protect Armored Vehicles in Conditions of Insufficient Dynamic Protection Elements

Due to the lack of the required number of dynamic protection elements (ERA), the Research Institute of Steel was proposed to use non-explosive reactive armor (NERA). This was reported by the Telegram channel "Military Informant."

NERA is a metal container from a dynamic protection element, which, instead of standard ERA such as 4S20 and 4S22, is equipped with 2-mm plates of structural steel, between which a 6-mm plate of organic glass is installed, tightly wrapped with tape.

Tests against PG-7L and PG-9S grenades (the main warheads of FPV drones) showed that when equipping DZ boxes with NERA, resistance of 71% of the standard 100% was obtained.

The resistance of side elements when equipped with NERA reached 92%, while turret modules with NERA showed 69% resistance. Simultaneously, filling the blocks with sand instead of DZ or NERA elements was also tested, which sometimes reached a resistance of 40% of the reference.

The most effective way to equip the навесной kit of dynamic protection and dynamic protection blocks is their standard equipment with ERA, and an acceptable way is a combined equipment with ERA and NERA.
